Book covers.
That’s right. If you don’t have a degree, then you don’t know what you’re doing. Please contact a professional who is ready and willing to work with you on designing the book cover. Try to come up with something unique, something that preferably has “layering” …not a one-dimensional image. People will say things like; “certain colors are more vibrant than others”? I don ‘t necessarily think that’s true, so long as the book cover itself looks professional… not done in ms paint. If you know what I mean.
Okay. Silly of me to think that I was educated enough to try and “Save money” just for the sake of penny-pinching. That you can just buy a sketch pad, some colored pencils, and a scanner to doodle up some book covers….. Boy, was I wrong. And yes, I returned the scanner. I still kept the colored pencils and sketch pad just to make sketches for the “PROFESSIONALS.”
Ideas for fonts? It’s really up to you. If you are writing for a specific genre, then choose the font that ‘looks good’ with that genre. It’s really not rocket science.
If you are still unsure about the book cover, then do what you want. Use a stockpile image just as long as its copyright free —if not, you give credit to the photographer, contact them etc.
There are copyright-free images like: chapter illustrations and icons, images for chapter titles (vector art and headers).
Editing.
Sometimes you need help with editing. No one is perfect, I understand.
Editing can mean checking your spelling, grammar, etc. You can have hire someone professional to help you through this process, or you can look up what a word means, or different words you can use.
Try not to use the same word over and over again. Build a word map. Read your drafts aloud, have someone else read it. Does the writing make sense? Does it flow naturally?
The more you write, the more practice you have, the more comfortable you will be, the better you will become. Until then, get the help you need. No one is stopping you but yourself.
Formatting.
I have no idea how to format anything myself. I write chapters separately, then combine them……and still THE MARGINS, NUMBERS ON THE PAGES, AND CHAPTER TITLES DON’T ALIGN IN THE FINAL VERSION. There are programs and places online who offer free services, if you are still unable to figure it out, LIKE ME…. then find someone who will talk you through it, and work with you.
Some important things:
IBSN numbers, copyrights, and other websites. I will post a list of all of the links available soon.
“To maintain full distribution rights and control, buy ISBNs directly from authorized national agencies like Bowker in the US (or Nielsen in the UK) rather than using free Amazon/KDP ISBNs. Buying your own allows you to list your imprint as the publisher, use the same ISBN across multiple platforms (e.g., KDP, IngramSpark, Barnes & Noble), and ensures you are listed as the publisher of record.”
